Class Materials:
You need to come prepared
to class every day. This means you must bring the following items
with you each day:
Back
to Policies and Procedures
Homework:
- Homework
is a way to practice the concepts we're learning in class. It
helps you learn vocabulary, it reinforces language rules, and
it gives you a chance to use what you've learned.
- Homework
assignments usually consist of workbook exercises or worksheets.
- All
homework is due at the beginning of class. Students will not receive credit
for incomplete assignments even if there are "...only a
couple left to do." I stamp completed assignments only.
Therefore, no
stamps = no points!
- Unexcused
tardies
will not get their homework
stamped!
- So what
do you do if you don't know an answer and I won't stamp it if
the assignment isn't completed? Make an educated guess based
on what you know. Most of the time communicating in a foreign
language involves a lot of guessing anyway!
- If you
have been absent it is your responsibilty to get the assignment stamped
as soon as you return.

Class Participation:
Your grade
includes a weekly participation grade worth 15 - 25 points per
week. A Block class is worth 10 points and an All class is worth
5 points.
Good participation
includes:
1. attending
class regularly.
- Absences
decrease a student's ability to participate.
2. being
prepared for class.
- In your
seat and ready to work when the bell rings with all required
items.
- Paying
attention.
3. contributing
to class activities.
- Passing
out papers or supplies.
- Volunteering
answers.
- Not
being disruptive.

Grading:
Quarter
grades are based on Lesson Quizzes, Chapter Tests, Work Packets,
Class Participation, Internet Assignments, and Written and Oral
Projects. The student's total points will be divided by the total
points possible to obtain a percentage grade:
89.5
- 100% = A
79.5
- 89.4 = B
69.5
- 79.4 = C
Extra-credit
opportunities will also be available.

Attendance and Make-up Work:
- With
our Block schedule it is very important to be in class everyday because you
are responsible for everything
we
do in class. This means more work not less!
- If you
know in advance that you will be absent for any excused reason
(sports, appointments, vacations) then you should plan to get
assignments beforehand.
- When
you are absent from school due to illness or any unplanned absence
you will need to obtain any missing classwork as soon as you
return.
- A list
of daily work will be posted on the WEBSITE and all handouts
will be available in the Handouts basket. Consult this list after you
are absent and find any handouts assigned. Check with a fellow
student or myself for clarification.
- Homework
that was due on the day you were absent is due the day you return.
- If you
are absent the class period preceding a quiz or test you will
not be required to take the quiz or test on the day you return.
- Missing
quizzes or tests may be made up for full credit until we take
the next quiz or test. After the next quiz or test is given, 50% of the points
will be deducted.
- Students
with unexcused
absences will
lose all
daily participation points and any assignments either assigned
or turned in on that day. Students may make up quizzes and tests.
Note:
You
will be required to take the quiz or test if the preceding class
period was unexcused!

Classroom Expectations and Consequences:
I expect
all students to behave in the following manner:
- Arrive
on time with all the necessary materials
- No eating, chewing gum, or drinking or bringing drinks to class.
- Follow
directions the first time you hear them.
- Keep
your mouth free of gum, candy, paper or abusive language.
- Show
respect for the teacher, fellow students and classroom items.
- Take
responsibilty for your own learning
- Be back to class on time after lunch/exactly at 12:45 p.m.
Disruptive
students will be dealt with according to the following plan:
- 1st
violation:
VERBAL WARNING AND CONFERENCE WITH STUDENT
- 2nd
violation:
CALL TO PARENT
- 3rd
violation: ***DETENTION ASSIGNED / DETENTION FORM MUST BE SIGNED BY PARENT WHEN YOU RETURN TO MY CLASS THE NEXT DAY /YOU WILL RECEIVE ANOTHER DAY OF DETENTION IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE FORM SIGNED BY YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN.
- 4th
violation: IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION
***Note:

Bathroom and Nurse Passes:
- All
students will be given 3 bath and 2 nurse passes per 9th weeks.
- If you
need to leave the room and you no longer have a bath or nurse pass it will cost you a tardy. Two tardies due to not having passes will give you a detention.
- If you
still have your Bathroom and Nurse Passes at
the end of the semester, they can be redeemed for 10 extra
credit points each.
Back
to Policies and Procedures
Tardies:
- Tardiness
will be excused only if you bring a legitimate note from a teacher
when you arrive tardy.
- Since
I stamp homework at the beginning of class, unexcused tardies
will not
get
their assignments stamped. No stamps = no points!
- The
consequence for tardies is:
- 1st
tardy:
DETENTION THE FIRST OFFENSE

BINDERS:
- You are required to mantain a 5 sections binder.
- BINDER consist of notes, in-class work, listening activities,
and homework assignments.
- Students
must keep all of their papers together until the day of a quiz
or test when the papers are stapled together and turned in as
a work packet AT THE END OF THE 1ST/2ND QUARTER.
- I grade each
BINDER based on how complete they are. In other words, I am
actually checking to see if students are doing what I ask them
to do.
Students that are organized and on task will get a better grade
on your binder check than students that stuff their papers in their
book or locker or spend classtime fooling around.
- Since
students are expected to come prepared to class with all of their
materials, packets must be turned in on quiz or test day in order
to receive full credit. Work packets turned in late will receive
half credit.

Cheating:
All work
is to be your own. Cheating will result in a zero on any assignment.
Examples of cheating include:
- Copying
homework.
- Giving
or receiving test information.
- Looking
at someone's test.
- Having
identical or nearly identical sentences in writing assignments.
- Using
a "cheat sheet" or writing on hands or clothing.
